Naeem Khan Casts a Spell at the New York Fashion Week

Celebrated Mumbai-born designer Naeem Khan, who recently made news for dressing up First Lady Michelle Obama for the first

State dinner in honor of India’s Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, received rave reviews for his Fall collection at the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week at the Bryant Park in New York City.

New York based Khan has been a fixture at the Fashion Week over the past few years. His dresses are more recognizable as "full-body jewelry" than clothing, with sequins, pailettes and embellishments that completely cover an entire garment, making it sparkle and shine from a distance, his Web site says.

Described by The Associated Press as "a celebration of glamour with a touch of American classic sportswear and a hint of love, sex and rock `n' roll," the collection featured plunging-neckline ball gowns embellished with crystals, beads and studs. Models strutted down the runway to AC/DC, Guns N' Roses and the Rolling Stones, and taking the rocker vibe further, their ball gowns were paired with studded motorcycle jackets and punk rock hairdos.

The most eye-catching ensemble featured an elaborate embellishment ¬ an ostrich feather-and- pailette skirt that practically lit up when the model shimmied down the runway, the AP reported. It was worn with a metallic brocade motorcycle vest, the report said. Khan founded his label in 2003, presenting his first collection at Olympus Fashion Week in 2005.

The grandson of a textile entrepreneur who specializes in elaborate embroidery, Khan moved to the U.S. to attend school when he was 20, but later became an assistant for the iconic minimalist designer Halston, who he met through his father. The rest is fashion history.

His label is carried in more than 200 stores, including Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, and Saks Fifth Avenue. Some of his clients include Padma Lakshmi, Beyoncé, Eva Longoria, Alicia Keys, Princess Aga Khan and Carrie Underwood.

Shekhar Rahate’s Creations Showcased at “Caring with Style” Fashion Show for Haiti Relief

Local and national fashion designers united for a charitable cause with the LA Fashion Corner's "Caring with Style" Fashion Show. Hosted by celebrity comedian Jodi Miller, the fashion event took place on Jan 26, 2010 at the Highlands Hollywood Night Club and Restaurant, Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles.

The event raised funds and awareness on behalf of the communities affected by the recent Haiti earthquake. This star-studded fashion show capped off the 52nd annual Grammy Awards by showcasing some of the country's most exciting new fashion designers.

The fashion industry's top models, wardrobe stylists and hair and make-up artists donated their time and talent to the cause.

Indian American fashion designer Shekhar Rahate’s creations were a part of this prestigious show too. With 15 years of experience in the fashion industry, Rahate designs women's fashions and exotic evening gowns. The first designer to work and do shows for the United Mission at the assembly hall, he is responsible for launching the "India Queen" beauty pageant in 1997 in Mumbai, which achieved international affiliation in 1998. He also fully choreographed "KABULTEX" in October 1999 at the Hyatt Regency in Dubai with designer Seema Roy and other local designers, and he worked with models including Gul Panag, Malaika Arora and Rajlaxmi Khanvilakar. A former model and photographer himself, Rahate found a connection with the fashion world after working with stylists backstage.
