Indian students beware!

It was sad to know about the raids on the campus of University of Northern Virginia which has allegedly given illegal visas to so many Indian students who travel to the US to fulfill their American Dream. Only solace here was the way the Indian government intervened and got the US administration to treat students with dignity and not tie up the GPS collars to their ankles. This was second such case in recent past and I am sure a wakeup call for thousands of students who invest in US education. It was unfortunate on the part of the students who would have never known that they were being cheated by a university. The students came here on valid documents. There ought to be a strict mechanism which can deter universities from doing anything illegal. Here they are playing with the future of students which is not acceptable at any cost.

Some lessons from the London riots

Indian Legislature, Executive and Judiciary should take a lesson from the British on how to deal with mob violence, which is so common in India. Tough laws will now be framed by the British House of Lords; they will be ‘seen’ to be executed by the Executive; Judiciary will assist both legislature and executive in ensuring ‘suitable’ punishments for the rioters. Magistrates are burning midnight oil, sitting through the night to ensure ‘speedy’ Justice; legislators are ‘fiercely’ debating on new ‘tough’ laws; the Executive branch is gearing up on ‘all measures’ to combat the criminals. The Indian constitution and Legislature have a heavy influence of the British, yet a lot remains to be learnt.

Two India Day Parades in NJ

It is shameful that we are not able to stay united as a community even when it comes to India's Independence Day celebration. Are our egos so huge that we are not able to sacrifice them for the very cause which binds us together? New Jersey is to see two India Day parades this year. Edison is known as Little India, isn't it? So why leave out our diversity there as well? Indian community leaders, high time you sat at a table and resolved your issues for the betterment of India's image!

One month after Mumbai blasts, no arrests yet

It has been a month to the triple bomb blasts that killed 26 in Mumbai on July 13 and the police are still scrambling for a breakthrough, with no claim of responsibility and no arrests made. If you compare it to the US, this is too hard to believe. How can a system make no headway when one of the most prosperous cities in India is a constant target of terrorist attacks? What is the intelligence doing?

Fai arrest: Truth at last revealed

Kashmiri separatist Ghulam Nabi Fai, who has been charged with being an undeclared agent of ISI in the US, was also a director of a UK-based organization, promoting Pakistani interest on Kashmir, according to a media report. India stands vindicated by his arrest by the FBI for allegedly collaborating with ISI and “clandestinely” funneling hundreds and thousands of dollars to change the view of American lawmakers on Kashmir. India has voiced its concern time and again about the covert activities of ISI. Fai's arrest has undoubtedly proved that Pakistan has been harboring terrorism forever. Hope it won't be long before the country pays for its misdeeds.

Too much cricket, performance suffers

Indian team's performance in current Test series against England raises so many questions regarding the characteristics of a world champion cricket team. Just before four months India won the one day World Cup and rose to the rankings of world's number one cricket team in Test format also. I believe it is too much of cricket and over-commercialization of the game which breeds more greed in the players who simply do not want to take enough rest and even BCCI has found a new way in the form of IPL to milk the psyche of cricket crazy Indian nation which simply uses cricket team as a cash machine. This commercialization coupled with laziness towards rigorous fitness regimen lead to so many injuries to many best players in this key India- England Test series, which India has lost with first three out of four Test matches convincingly won by England.
