Barah Aana: A Preview

After sharing screen space in Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding,Naseeruddin Shah and Vijay Raaz (last seen in Delhi-6) will be seen together in Raja Menon’s Barah Aana.The film has received a very positive response at film festivals including IFFI, IFFK and PIFF and it is said that Barah Aana marks the best performance of Vijay Raaz till date.

Set in modern-day Mumbai, Barah Aana is the story of three individuals unsatisfied with their lives—a driver named Shukla (Naseeruddin Shah), a mischievous watchman named Yadav (Vijay Raaz) and an ambitious waiter named Aman (Arjun Mathur—last seen in Lucky By Chance). The three of them accidentally get into crime when Yadav is in great need of money after his son falls ill and no one helps him out. Unexpectedly, Yadav kidnaps a man and earns 30,000 rupees ransom. He realizes crime isn’t a bad business and convinces Shukla and Aman to also get into the kidnapping business. Eventually, things get out of control…

The film has also performances from Violante Placido, Tannishtha Chatterjee (Brick Lane), Jayati Bhatia (68 Pages), Mahabanoo Mody- Kotwal (Black) and Benjamin Gilani (Waqt).

Audiences fond of offbeat cinema or people just looking for something interesting to watch at a time when other new releases such as Aloo Chaat and Straight don’t seem too promising ought to enjoy Barah Aana. Running time: 97 minutes.
