Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam

Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was an inspiration to all of us. A true Indian. He was born on 15 October 1931 and is now 76 years of age. He is one of the people who received the honorable Bharat Ratna in 1997. It is the award given for the highest degrees of national service. He is one of the four presidents who was awarded this honorable award.

Abdul Kalam was born into a middle class family in Rameshwaram. His mother tongue is Tamil. Mr. Kalam graduated from Madras Institute of Technology majoring in Aeronautical Engineering. He was the Chief Scientific Adviser in the Department of Defense. Mr. Kalam is a scholar of Thirukkural. In most of his speeches, he quotes at least one Kural. He has written several inspirational books, most notably his autobiography Wings of Fire was aimed at motivating Indian youth.

 Mr. Kalam always talks on how the NRI youth here is doing so well in the academic field. The main idea of his speeches for the NRI youth was "WHAT CAN I GIVE". He also said that we must have righteousness in any field we work in or believe in. He stressed that this rightesnouss can only be gained and can be given to an individual only by three people: Mother, Father and a Teacher or Guru. He believes that hope can lead to any unreachable goal, and doubt can lead to total failure.

 These words would motivate anyone of us and shows us how great of a person he is, how rightly he talks and how we should one day follow his dreams and make it come true for the 2020 vision. He requested especially the Youth to increase the economic strength of India by 2020. He wants India to become a superpower and a developed nation. He is a very big role model and inspiration to all Indians especially Youth living either in India or any other part of the world. To achieve this dream he has made many missions. He believes that nuclear power is a great credit to help India become a superpower.

The NRI youth abroad requires inspirational figures like Abdul Kalam. He teaches us how we can respect our great nation. He teaches us how we should be faithful to our adopted nation.Whenever we see him we youth believe that there is someone who trusts in this growing youth and this gives us the boost to help our great nation to push it over to the edge of civilization onto a much greater side. He practically stood as an inspirational figure and gave us hope in believing that anything is possible-nothing impossible.

KarthikeyanKartikeyan, born in Nairobi, Kenya to Indian parents, is an 11th grade student at John Bowne High School in Flushing, NY. He has had the privilege of experiencing life in several countries where his father, a diplomat, has been posted to from time to time. An avid football and tennis player, he hopes to become a computer architect after his graduation.
